Weekend Introduction to Backcountry Ski Touring

This weekend seminar presents the skills needed for you to safely and enjoyably ski in backcountry terrain. Our first day begins with a meeting to plan and prepare your ski tour. Clothing, equipment, backpacks, food and drinks for winter travel are topics discussed. Mid morning we begin our ski lesson, learning techniques to ski on flat terrain, then in the afternoon uphill and downhill maneuvers with control will be practiced and learned. On day two we will ski a backcountry tour in the area. This course is for the beginning skier wishing a thorough introduction to backcountry ski touring in NH.

2 Day Steep Skiing Seminar

The chutes and ravines in Tuckerman's Ravine or Gulf of Slides offer some of the best steep backcountry skiing in the White Mountains of NH. This overnight ski tour allows you to escape the crowded ski areas and venture into the spectacular ski mountaineering terrain of the northeast. Strong intermediate skiing skills combined with basic mountaineering skills are needed to enjoy this overnight ski experience.

Zealand to Kancamangus Overnight Tour

The Zealand ski tour travels through the remote Pemigewasset Wilderness area. This excellent backcountry ski tour travels roads and historic railroad logging routes for 20 miles. You will learn how to ski tour with lightweight packs equipped for your overnight camp. This course covers the skills needed to stay warm and comfortable so you may enjoy this overnight winter ski touring experience.

Mt Moosilauki Overnight

The Mt Moosilauki ski mountaineering tour is a great way to become competent with back country ski techniques and winter camping skills. This 12 mile tour crosses 4 summits and travels above tree line for 3 miles. The first day you will establish a camp high on the ridge between Mt Jim and Mt Blue. The next morningwill begin with the summit climb of Mt Moosilauki followed by a long ski descent over South Peak and into the forest along the carriage path.
